ENGLISH LITERATURE EXAM

ADVISORY:
· The paper will comprise two sections – ‘A’ and ‘B’
· The duration of the entire exam is 1hour 15 minutes
· Section A will be based on your anthology ‘Moon on the Tides’
· Select a poetry question based on the section of the anthology entitled ‘Character and Voice’
· You are advised to spend 45 minutes on ‘Section A’
· Section B comprises the unseen poetry requirement
· You are advised to spend 30 minutes on this part of the exam
· Focus on the following two words: What? How?- in your attempts to answer the question in Part B


Approaching the Exam -Section A
1. Section A will give you a choice of questions – choose your question wisely
2. Read the chosen question carefully – find the words that tell you what you have to do (key words) and develop an interpretation around these
3. Remember that one poem will be named – choose another poem to compare with this named one
4. The poem that you choose should be one that you know a lot about and one which will allow you to confidently and securely compare to the named one in the question you have chosen
5. Use at least 10 minutes to develop a planned response (very brief outline of what you want to cover in the essay)
6. Stay focused on the question and ensure you are answering it accurately and appropriately
7. Section B will have only one question
